What it's like working in a school

For the last week I have been on work experience observing a reception class.  By observing I mean; a lot of cleaning, finding toys, putting out toys, getting toys back in, cutting out pictures and stopping fights.

I have come to the conclusion that a child's behaviour is extraordinary, I have come to this as a result of the following observations:

  • If they don't like what you say they will 'tell their mummy'

  • They seem to only want to build hotels with blocks, no matter how many

times you tell them castles are better!

  • They make you feel so guilty if you tell them off that you end up saying

    sorry.

  • They like to add bits to your name, if they cant remember it they just

yell 'teacher' until you take notice

  • They all speak at the same time, so you have to attempt to listen to about

three conversations at the same time- no matter how much you tell them to

    stop, they don't!

  • They think that being called 'a big banana' is offensive

  •

This week was however an enjoyable experience, even thou it left me physically and mentally drained.  I did feel slightly exploited, the fact that I was unpaid and ended up being asked to stay later and also having to do a lot of irrelevant stuff.  This experience has also taught me that even though primary teaching looks easy, it is actually extremely hard!!! But im still going to apply.
