01 May 2005

Around this time three years ago, I was eagerly anticipating the release of Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Went to see it on the night it came out, and, for the second time, was disappointed with George Lucas' attempt at directing a prequel. Having said that, I will still be going to see Episode III: Revenge of the Sith on May 19th. I'm not only hoping that the third installment will re-instate some faith into the idea of the prequels, but will also be a down-right damn good film. Even the Star Wars fans disheartened by Episodes I and II will still go to see III simply because it is one of the biggest events in Star Wars history. It's the first time Darth Vader wil be seen in that Galaxy far far away... so, this is just a long-winded way of me saying to you guys... GO SEE IT!!! THURSDAY MAY 19TH!!!

Anyways, other than that:-

Anyone who likes the Arabian Nights stories will be glad to hear that a Sinbad the Sailor film is going to be made for release at the end of 2006. However, you'd think that casting would be a high priority for this kind of role, but obviously not because Sinbad will be played by none other than Keanu Reeves!!! Why?! Why?! Why?!

Woohoo!! They a making a live action movie of Transformers! It's probably going to be action packed with lots of explosions and big sequences as it's being directed and produced by Michael Bay and Jerry Bockheimer of Bad Boys and Pearl Harbour. So we can expect lots of effects and lack of a decent plot.

If you thought Morgan Freeman had finished with those films as Detective Alex Cross (Kiss The Girls, Along Came A Spider), you'd be mistaken. Another one of James Patterson's novels is being adapted for the third film about the detective.

It is known that one of the best living directors at the moment, Ridley Scott, has always wanted to make a western. For any of us who appreciate his talents, as well as the odd saloon bar, cowboy hat and occasional gun slinging, this could be a godsend of a movie. The film in question is Blood Meridian, which is an old Western Scott has always loved. But if it was made he wouldn't even go into production until at least 2006. That's ages away! How annoying!!

So, here are two films to definitely catch this month: firstly, Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven. It's got some good reviews and I know it's hard but just try and put up with Orlando Bloom for 2/3 hours and then he's gone and you won't have too see him anymore. I think you all should know that the other film is obviously Star Wars. May 19th, people, don't forget.

P.S. Sorry about all the exclamation marks in my article this month, just way way too excited about Star Wars. Don't worry, I have calmed down by next month. Unless Episode III is the best film I've ever seen, in which case the situation might be worse. Anyways, until next time...
