Lazy Eating #3

Ah, microwaves, the saviour of lazy eaters everywhere. Direct heating using Science, microwaves are wondrous and awe-inspiring devices. They warm your tepid mug of tea in a minute, reheat last month's frozen curry, and offer the most nutritiously conservative way of cooking vegetables (not that we care about such things here). To celebrate our dear, dear friend the microwave, this edition of Lazy Eating offers not one, but two wonderful microwave recipes, both of which are 100% spork compatible! Don't say I never spoil you.

Recipe #3: Scienced Egg

Ingredients

  • An egg
  • A mug
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Method

Bear in mind that when I say mug, I mean mug. Most mugs are exactly the right dimensions to give the perfect egg depth for ideal energy absorption. Crack the egg into the mug and microwave the egg on full power for 30 seconds. If it needs more, give it more. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Recipe #3.5: Chocolate Mugcakes

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp of flour
  • 4 tbsp of sugar
  • 3 tbsp of milk
  • 2 tbsp of cocoa
  • 3 tbsp of oil
  • An egg

Method

This is possibly the stuff that dreams are made of: instant cake! It couldn't be simpler, either. Just bung it all in the mug you used for your main course and stir it well with your spork. Heat it on full power for about 3 minutes, and observe as the mixture expands out of the cup like some self replicating tower. Don't panic! This is meant to happen, and the cake will contract back into the mug when as cools. Serve neat (on its own) or on the moon rocks (with ice cream).

Note: cooking times for both these recipes are quoted for pretty high power microwaves (around 800W - 1000W). Lower power ovens may necessitate slightly longer nuking times.

WARNING: Never put a whole egg in a microwave. They explode.
